When you drive trough the nice inland of Iceland, it is almost unthinkable not to meet a river. You have two options; go back or cross the river. Going back is not the first thing on you mind. So the option to cross the river is the only choose left. But which steps you take. First THINK before taking any action. It is better to think ahead instead then afterwards. When your car is washed away or you run aground, you have a challenge which is more defiant. Is your car prepared for a river cross? Are you ready to drive trough the river. Is your co-driver ready (enough). Do I wait for an other car? Second TRY yourself. When it is possible to walk trough the river, your car can drive trough. You can see and feel if there are big stones or hols in the water. You feel how strong the flow is. A golden rule is: the stronger the flow, the less deep the water must be. The last and third step is drive with caution.
This week we should fly to Iceland for a great holiday. Iceland is always great, for that reason it should be a great holiday again. We want to visit some friends and Kirkjubaejarklaustur. This is one of the places we like and is located in the area where Eyjafjallajokull throw a lot of ash. We want to see how the nice camping and the new swimming pool survived so many ash. Maybe speak some Icelandic people about there experience during the volcano eruption. Borgarnes is also a place we like to visit. As you know we get on a regular base nice photos of Borgarnes. Please feel free to behold them. But unfortunately mine wife and kids where involved in a traffic accident. Happily everything is going well now, but during the fact that here arm is still broken, the general practitioner said it is not wise to go to Iceland. Struggling with this fact the rational part of our mind used its veto and the emotional part resigned. We have to get our joy out of the older photos and wait for a new moment we can visit Iceland again.
As you maybe know on a regular base you can find nice photos of Borgarnes and area on the site. The photo of 18-06-2010 is again a excellent photo. But there are more. Please take a look and find out yourself the beauty of Iceland and specially Borgarnes. You can also vote so other people know what the average rate is of a photo. Today there already 317 photos on the site, so photos enough.
What are the places to be if you are on Iceland. As mentions on 18 November 2009 one of those places is Gjain. Which palaces are there also you must visit. One of mine favorite places is the Strokkur. Mostly called the Geyser. It is not the geyser but a geyser next to the geyser. Is this clear enough?! I will explain a little bit more. The Geyser is the famous geyser after which all other geyser are named. “A geyser is a spring characterized by intermittent discharge of water ejected turbulently and accompanied by a vapour phase (steam)”( source = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geyser) . The Strokkur is a geyser nearby the geyser and blows approximately every 7 minutes. Every time when I am watching the Strokkur time is flying. It is so inspiring, beautiful and fascinating. The moments that you are alone with the Strokkur are indescribable. During the eruptions of the Eyjafjallajokull I realized that there is a change that the Strokkur will stop blowing. A earthquake or eruption of a volcano can change the time between the eruptions of the Strokkur or worst will stop the eruptions at all. This unpleased idea gives the Strokkur a higher rang on mine list of places you must have seen on Iceland.
What can I say, Iceland is shaking and throwing up a lot of ashes. I know I already in progress from the beginning of this year. On 21-03-2010 there was the first ( in this period ) active eruption. Yesterday already a new big eruption with a lot of ash. A big part of Europe can’t fly as result of the ash. You can’t guide nature. That is why I like Iceland so much. It gives you the unexpected.
During mine daily shopping I saw someone who has a sweater with a Cintamani logo on it. So with in a second mine thoughts where back on Iceland. As far as I know Cintamani is only sold on Iceland. So Cintamani reminds me of it. Nice memories came back and the cart was full within seconds. So shopping with Iceland on you mind is not that bad. Thanks to the unknown Iceland lover.
A couple of winter hour further, there are now more photos with a tag and text. It cost sometime but it is now easier to find a photo. If you see any photo with the wrong tag or text please let me know. I tried to avoid mistakes, but after litres coffee and to many photos it is not exclude I forgot a tag somewhere. Or maybe no tag at all. I hope you will enjoy the photos.
The Icelandic people are at the moment in a very difficult situation. A couple of private bankers have “arranged” that all Icelandic residents have a huge issue. I want to wish the Icelandic people al wisdom they need to handle this problem. I also wish that the Dutch and UK ministers will seriously consider an European attitude against our European inhabitants.
To get a good impression of Iceland you have to feel the ground and smell the air. For those who aren’t in the position to travel to Iceland I have made a Impression of Iceland. I hope you like it.
Because I have been to Iceland several times and I hope to be on Iceland more often, I looked for a way to learn the Icelandic language. Not that it is a problem to communicate with the Iceland people; they speak very good English. Probably better than I do. I like to speak with them in there own language. ( This is a dream which I will never reach ) I like to be able to say some Icelandic words. Like Góđan daginn. It is not easy to find a good way to learn it, when you are not on Iceland.
There are no Icelandic lessons nearby my home. During my quest, I found something interesting on You Tube. Eva Natalja Robertsdattir is someone who explains in categories some Icelandic words and pronounce them also. The word appears also on screen. So you can read and hear how it is pronounced. There are a lot of videos. This videos are a good way to learn Icelandic. For those who are also interested. Go to YouTube.com and search for “Common Phrases in Icelandic Language”. To Eva Natalja Robertsdattir I like to say Frábært ( which means excellent )
